Child molestation, particularly of pre-adolescent girls, stems
from an ideology that is imposed on the Maldives. Most Maldivians
seem to be unwilling to acknowledge this and until they do, the
problem will not go away. Pre-adolescent marriage is codified in
Koran 65:4.
"Such of your women as have passed
the age of monthly courses, for them the prescribed period, if
ye have any doubts, is three months, and for those
who have no courses (it is the same):
for those who carry (life within their wombs), their period is
until they deliver their burdens: and for those who fear Allah,
He will make their path easy."
Only weeks ago it came to light
that a parliamentarian of the ruling Maldivian People's Party (DRP)
has proposed a constitutional amendment making paedophile marriage
with pre-adolescent girls a fundamental right of Maldive men (see
Minivan News article). It is an outrage against
common decency that this proposal has been received by the Maldive
parliament to be tabled for enactment.
Detractors would jump at this statement saying that in a "democracy"
members of parliament have a right to propose any motion and parliament
may not necessarily enact it. That may be true, but in the Maldives
anyone who dares to propose an end to the ideology that protects
these paedophiles would be shouted down and ostracised.
In the Maldives, international treaty obligations, statutes, regulations
and indigenous custom are subordinate to the Shariah. This
was not the case historically. In recent years there has been a
concerted campaign by mullahs who receive funding and encouragement
from conservative Islamic states to make Maldive civil laws and
social norms explicitly subordinate to the Shariah. What
we see today in the form of judicial rulings in favour of paedophiles
is just the thin end of the wedge.
It is a “holy” tradition (Sunnah) for men in
their 50s to marry girls as young as 6 and have full sexual intercourse
with them when the victim turns 9. That is regarded as a meritorious
act. Last year a Maldive man who returned from Pakistan with a 9-year-old
“wife” was acquitted by a Maldive court of breaching
Maldive international treaty obligations after he submitted that
he had a “sacred” right, as per Sunnah, to
perform paedophile sex with his “wife”. This went unreported
by the media out of a debilitating fear of being branded anti-Islamic.

woman after being flogged. A Maldive victim of the procedure
describes her ordeal as follows: "I was beaten publicly
(for the sin of bearing a child out of wedlock). My
trousers were soaked with the blood that streamed from
the cuts on my thighs. However I was hurt more by the
mocking of the crowd which gathered to watch the beating
than from the pain my body was feeling" |

"If one
puts uncovered meat out in the street, or on the footpath, or in
the garden, or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover,
then the cats come and eat it, is it the fault of the cat or the
uncovered meat? The uncovered meat is the problem!"
- Sheikh Taj el-Din el-HilaliA Maldive judge recently dismissed a charge of rape against four
axe-wielding men who were accused of breaking and entering into
a bedroom in the middle of the night and raping a 12-year old girl.
Instead he found the men guilty of consensual fornication, a crime
in Islam that carries a mandatory sentence of being flogged 100
times. Maldive media reported that they have been banished to a
remote atoll for 8 months. No flogging was mentioned, even though
that is a mandatory sentence which is automatically imposed. The
judge said that the girl did not scream during her alleged rape
and so she must have enjoyed the sex and consented to it.
In cases such as this, the onus of proof falls on the female victim.
She must produce four adult, upright, male, Muslim eye-witnesses
willing to testify that they had seen the perpetrators rape her.
Questions would also be raised as to whether or not she was wearing
the Islamic burqa veil. If she was not, she would be accused
of luring innocent men to sex. Failure to produce the witnesses
would attract her the same sentence of 100 lashes and banishment.
The Maldive media has not reported this yet. The Maldives is treaty
bound to enforce internationally recognised children's and women's
rights and to ban inhuman and degrading punishments such as flogging.
Corporal punishment of minors who are rape victims are routinely
covered up by the Maldive media, in order to protect the lucrative
tourism industry from negative consequences.

death for luring innocent men to sex. In Iran, stoning a woman
to death is not a crime; using a stone that is not of the
prescribed size is. |
Earlier in the year an Islamic mullah (clergyman) on an outer island
was released after he was investigated for allegedly molesting six-year
old girls in his mosque. It is unclear if the six-year old girls have
so far been accused of luring the good mullah into whatever he was
accused of doing to them.
According to Sahih Muslim Hadith number 3240, a "woman
advances and retires in the shape of a devil". The 12 year old
girl and the 6 year old children would be regarded as women who advanced
on innocent, unsuspecting men, in the form of devils.
Until the victim (child “wife”) turns
9 her paedophile “husband” has a “sacred”
right to practise what is obnoxiously termed in the Shariah
as “thighing” (mufakhadzhah مفاخذة).
Respected Iranian mullah the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini eruditely
defines this “holy” tradition as follows in his book
Tahrirolvasyleh (volume 4, Darol Elm, Gom, Iran, 1990):
“Thighing is a means for an adult
male to enjoy a young girl who is still in the age of weaning;
meaning to place his penis between her thighs, and to kiss her."
The Ayatollah was explicit in spelling out what Maldive paedophiles
would rather keep in-house. The following is another quote from
Tahrirolvasyleh:
"A man can have sexual pleasure
from a child as young as a baby. However, he should not penetrate
vaginally, but sodomising the child is acceptable. If a man does
penetrate and damage the child then, he should be responsible
for her subsistence all her life."
While the late Ayatollah was a forthright advocate of “holy”
paedophiliac traditions, his Maldive counterparts are more covert
and tend to exhibit their characteristic duplicity.
Theocrats with dubious links with medrassas in Faisalabad,
Gombak, Medina and Cairo continue to wield veto power over all walks
of Maldive life. The
representatives of the people are restrained from questioning or
overruling theocratic dictates protecting Maldive paedophiles.
Under the new Maldive order child molestation is poised to become
an inalienable human right. The "democracy" movement within the
Maldive government and the opposition attempts to draw support from
the West while giving the one-finger salute to every norm that the
West holds as decent.

Child molestation and paedophilia are closely related to the
position of women in the Maldives. Women's position is clearly
exemplified by the men pictured here. Women are relegated
to the back seats, shrouded in black veils.
Women are compared with dogs and donkeys
and are beaten when it looks like they are going to run away
from controlling husbands.
"Narrated Aisha: The things which annul the prayers were
mentioned before me. They said, "Prayer is annulled by
a dog, a donkey and a woman (if they pass
in front of the praying people).""
-Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 1, Book
9, Hadith 490
"...the good women are therefore obedient,
guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those
on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave
them alone in the sleeping-places and
beat them;..."
-Koran Surah
el-Nisaa verse 34 (Shakir version)
The extract
below is from the sermon of Sheikh Taj el-Din al-Hilali in
Sydney's Lakemba mosque, Ramadan 2006. The sermon
came in the wake of the rape of an Australian woman by a Muslim.
Like the Maldive judge, the Sheikh calls it adultery, rather
than rape:
"But in the event of adultery, the responsibility falls
90 per cent of the time with women. Why? Because the woman
possesses the weapon of seduction. She is the one who takes
her clothes off, cuts them short, acts flirtatious, puts on
make-up and powder, and goes on the streets dallying. She
is the one wearing a short dress, lifting it up, lowering
it down, then a look, then a smile, then a word, then a greeting,
then a chat, then a date, then a crime, then Long Bay Gaol,
then comes a merciless judge who gives you 65 years.
"If one puts uncovered meat out in the street, or on
the footpath, or in the garden, or in the park, or in the
backyard without a cover, then the cats come and eat it, is
it the fault of the cat or the uncovered meat? The uncovered
meat is the problem! If it was covered the cat wouldn't have.
It would have circled around it and circled around it, then
given up and gone.Who does this mullah think he is, telling an Australian woman she should be in her room shrouded in a barbaric garment or be raped?
"If she was in her room, in her house, wearing her hijab,
being chaste, the disasters wouldn't have happened. The woman
possesses the weapon of seduction and temptation. That's why
Satan says about the woman, "You are half a soldier.
You are my messenger to achieve my needs. You are the last
weapon I would use to smash the head of the finest of men.
There are a few men that I use a lot of things with, but they
never heed me. But you? Oh, you are my best weapon."
